While the trail is open year-round, the prime time to visit is between May and November.

East Inlet Trail

Difficulty: Hard

Length: 18 Miles Out and Back

If you go a little beyond the Adams Falls Trail, you’ll reach the East Inlet Trail. This 18.0-mile out-and-back trail is known for its challenging terrain. It typically takes about 8 hours to complete. Along this trail, you’ll get great views of the river, mountains, and lakes. It's a popular destination for backpacking, camping, and fishing, so expect to see fellow outdoor enthusiasts during your trek. The ideal months to visit are May through October.

Shadow Mountain Lookout

Difficulty: Moderate

Length: 9.6 Miles Out and Back

Discover this 9.6-mile out-and-back trail that leads to the Shadow Mountain Outlook. The Outlook was built in the 1930s to identify and observe forest fires. While it’s closed today, it is the last standing fire lookout in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Typically considered moderately challenging, it takes approximately 5 hours to complete. Popular for hiking, horseback riding, and snowshoeing, this trail also offers solitude during quieter times. Open year-round, it showcases beauty in every season.

Cascade Falls

Difficulty: Easy

Length: 6.8 Miles Out and Back

Starting at the North Inlet Trailhead, hike the 3.4 miles to Cascade Falls. Considered an easy hike, it typically takes about 2 and a half hours to complete. When you reach the top of the falls, bring a picnic to enjoy the waterside. The best time to visit is from May through October.

Please Note: This trail was affected by wildfires in October 2020 so please stay on the trail so the nature around the trail can regrow.

East Shore Trail

Difficulty: Easy

Length: 5.8 Miles Out and Back

The East Shore Trail runs along Shadow Mountain Reservoir, making it the perfect destination for a hike with waterfront views. This 5.8-mile out-and-back hike is considered easy and takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Along this trail you’ll encounter many little beaches to stop and take a breather and maybe dip your toes in the cool water.

Colorado River Trail to Lulu City

Difficulty: Moderate

Length: 7.3 Miles Out and Back

This trail is the hike to take if you enjoy history. This trail takes you to the abandoned mining town that has tons of historic features like old mine shafts and cabin ruins. The town is about 3.7 miles from the trailhead entrance. Along the way, you’ll follow the Colorado River, which makes the trail shaded and cool during the summer months.  

Coyote Valley Trail

Difficulty: Easy

Length: 1.9 Miles Out & Back

This trail is perfect for families! The trail is leveled, making it wheelchair accessible, and it has a number of benches for your family to stop and enjoy nature. The trail is about a mile long, with fishing opportunities along the trail. There are even picnic tables at the beginning of the trail to bring a picnic for your family to enjoy.
